Comcast  - Western New England Region - System of the Year!

Congratulations Comcast Western New England Region!

Comcast named the Western New England Region its 2009 Circle of Success System of the Year.  The  honor is given to the system that goes above and beyond to improve the MSO by delivering superior business results, as well as top-notch service to its customers.

Comcast's Western New England Region employs over 1,900 employees and serves more than 800,000 customers in Connecticut, Vermont, Western Massachusetts and the Carmel, New York area. The region was recently recognized by the Hartford Business Journal as a "Best Place to Work in Connecticut" for the fifth straight year, most recently earning the second highest spot on the list. In addition, the region is constantly working to improve the customer experience and was among the first Comcast regions to launch a national Customer Guarantee, which clearly outlines what customers should expect, defines what Comcast is doing to hold itself accountable for meeting those expectations and how it's backing up its promises.

"My heartfelt congratulations go out to the Western New England Region, which has consistently exceeded expectations in every aspect of our business," said Dave Watson, executive vice president of operations for Comcast Cable, in a statement. "Their best practices are second to none in improving the customer experience and engaging employees, which resulted in operational excellence in 2009."

"It was all about finding a better way to improve processes and communications both for our employees and our customers," said Doug Guthrie, senior vice president of Comcast's Western New England Region. "By redefining the customer experience, improving operational efficiencies and focusing on engaging our employees, our Western New England Region led the company in finding innovative solutions to building the business."

Accupuncture:  How does it work?  What does it treat?

Accunpunture

The Benefits of Acupuncture

The benefits of acupuncture may seem few and far between to some.  The practice itself looks like something out of a horror movie - a person lying on a table with needles poking out from dozens of parts of their body.  In reality, there are many benefits.

For centuries people have been taking advantage of these benefits, but it has only been recently that the treatment has become more widely known and accepted in the western hemisphere.  People who have been scared to try the treatment are swiftly getting over it, in an effort to enjoy the benefits.

What Do Those Needles Do, Anyway?
It all looks so mystical and magical!  Tiny needles get inserted into your skin at specific points, depending on what your ailment is, and awhile later they get removed.  That's it!  Just the little needles and a skilled practitioner and there can be a lot of benefits of acupuncture.  But how does it work?

Acupuncturists are taught there are twelve main channels, which they also call meridians, which run vertically across and throughout the human body connecting the internal organs.  Qi (pronounced Chi) flows along these meridian lines.  Qi is the Japanese equivalent to vitality, or life force.

So What Does Acupuncture Help?

A Mentoring "Thank You"

Mentor Subtitle

I want to thank WICT for sponsoring a mentoring program.

I have had the pleasure of participating for the last three years and had the opportunity to be both a protégé and a mentor.  Each provided me with valuable experiences that helped me grow professionally.

From a protégé's perspective, I have had some wonderful mentors who guided me as a more experienced "conscience" to do the right thing for the business and for my own personal success.  Having a mentor is like having your own personal trainer.   What a nice supplement to my business managers - like nutrition to performance.  As good nutrition supports increased energy, the WICT mentoring program combined with the support of my own leadership gives me the fuel I need to be a better performer.

For an hour or so a month someone dedicates time to helping me focus on where I need guidance.  It may be a situation I'm not sure how to handle on the job, or where I should place my focus for career development.

The time I have dedicated to being a mentor is equally, if not more, rewarding.  I get to develop my coaching skills, learn about others and their roles and organizations, continue to build my network, and most importantly for me, practice listening.  I have yet to walk away from a session with my protégé without either learning something new or being provoked to look at something in a way that I may not have thought about before.

Thank you again for an enriching program that has long lasting effects and unlimited benefits.
