WICT
EDS (Executive Development Seminar) was an amazing and outstanding
learning experience! This program was laid out in a top-notch fashion
from the relaxing setting in Stowe, Vermont to the endless talent and
expertise of Elaine Yarbrough, from the Yarbrough Group. In my career I
have attended many training and development opportunities but found
this experience to be unique in many ways. The seminar was a
blend of individual reflection and interactive exercises. Due to
the nature of the content there was total engagement throughout the
entire program. I left Stowe Vermont with a suite of applicable
tools to enhance my personal life and professional career. The
relationships and resources I established will live on through targeted
mentoring groups and Linked In EDS 2009. Many thanks to the WICT New England Chapter for the scholarship and the opportunity to attend this "Best in Class" seminar!!

WICT and Student Outreach - Do You Want to go back to College for a Day? The
Student Outreach team is calling all members who want to go back to
college for a day this Fall and talk to students about their role in
the cable industry and provide quick tips on success in this
business.
The
plan is to schedule informal booth space/table set up on-site at
student unions where students can walk up and ask questions relating to
their job search and the cable industry while simultaneously discussing
the benefits of joining an organization like WICT. The goal is to
reach a mass student audience and in order to engage them, we have
found that going to where they congregate is an effective plan.
If you have interest to spend 2.5 hours on campus and run our student booth for the day, please email Caryn at caryn.sullivan@disney.espn.com and
tell her what school you would like to visit. If you have a
school contact in any area, please let us know, however the Student
Outreach team will coordinate the logistics of the visit and you will
just need to handle the on-site event. | |
Happy Summer! I
hope everyone is staying dry and able to enjoy the few sunny days we
have had so far this summer. In this heat, I bet I'm the only one
thinking about November. I can't help it, I am so excited for our
5th annual awards gala and our 30th anniversary celebration! This
year's gala theme is "Dream, Learn, Become... Three Unforgettable
Decades" to celebrate our achievements and to reflect on the 30th
anniversary of Women in Cable Telecommunications. 30 years ago most
cable customers received about 20 channels from their local cable
company and digital voice didn't exist! Women did not hold the
positions that they do today. As the pearl is the traditional
30th anniversary memento, we are looking to collect your pearls of
wisdom and strength. Please share your stories with us about how WICT
has helped you fulfill your dreams, learn about yourself and become the
success you are today. Send your story by September 5th to
WICT30Years@yahoo.com. Include your contact information as
selected stories will be published in this year's gala program for a
keepsake. This year our event will be held on
November 5, 2009 at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood, MA. We
are moving our signature event from Boston to the 'burbs (right off of
128) to make access easier and to allow us to keep ticket prices
reasonable. As always the gala is all about the
awards and the awards are all about the nominees! Nominate
someone today!! Its simple, provide us with your nominee's
contact information, answer a few questions, and then click submit,
email or fax it to us. Remember without awards we don't have an
awards gala. A few of our signature awards: Technical Achievement:
Recognizes one male and one female from the industry for
accomplishments that have significantly contributed to the progress of
the industry. This could be anything, from creating a program that
allowed the industry to work smarter to implementing a process that
saves the industry money. Woman to Watch: recognizes an industry individual at the cusp of her career as having the potential to go places. Click here to see the list of awards & to nominate someone. Help
us drive nominations and celebrate our 30th anniversary as the
milestone year it is by adding the below info to your email auto
signature. All you have to do is copy and paste it right

How to Stay Essential and Centered in Today's Business Environment:
The
June 10th event, "How to Stay Essential and Centered in Today's
Business Environment" was a success! Over 80 participants enjoyed
a day filled with tools and information focused on providing guidance
on how to "stay essential and centered" in today's business
environment. Participants had the opportunity to
learn how to create empowering thought processes, tap into their
"V.I.B.E" (Values, Interests, Beliefs, Energy Sources), and learn
networking techniques. They were also introduced to basic,
holistic health approaches such as, diet, yoga, stretching and the
exploration of meditation.
 When
participants were asked to identify one example of how they plan to use
the knowledge acquired from the session, actual responses included:
"Both
instructors were very engaging and gave me so much to think
about. I'm motivated to make changes that will pay dividends."
"I loved this program! Brought me back to reality!"
"I'm going to reach out to 2-3 people to network towards reaching my goals."
"Focus on practical ways for improving my health. Reframe my thoughts positively."
"Now more aware of my need to take better care of myself both professionally and on a person level."
While
being able to attend such a session is beneficial, WICT members can
begin their own exploration for identifying ways to "stay essential and
centered". One particular site I discovered in my search
is: www.myinnerworld.com. Check it out! Begin your own exploration today and commit to "staying essential and centered"! - Kim O'Keefe |
