Douglas R. Guthrie, Senior Vice President, Western New England Region
Douglas
Guthrie serves as Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Western New
England Region. In this role, Guthrie is the senior executive
responsible for operations, financial performance and customer service
for over 800,000 customers in more than 300 communities in Connecticut,
Western Massachusetts, Vermont and New York.
Mr. Guthrie
has nearly 25 years of experience in the communications industry,
holding a variety of senior management, operations and marketing
positions with Comcast and its predecessor companies, including
AT&T Broadband, MediaOne and Continental Cablevision, where he
began his career in Massachusetts in 1985.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Guthrie served as Vice President of
Advanced Services for Comcast’s Northern Division, where he was
responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and execution of
divisional product trials, launches and initiatives. In this position,
Guthrie oversaw the New England rollout of Comcast Digital Voice, the
company’s award-winning IP-enabled phone service, and Comcast’s “Triple
Play” bundle of video, phone and high-speed Internet products.
In 2003, Guthrie was named Vice President for Comcast’s Western
Massachusetts area, where he managed all aspects of the business for
more than 150,000 customers. During his tenure, he oversaw the launch
of several advanced products, including High-Definition Television and
Video-on-Demand. Under Guthrie’s leadership, Western Massachusetts was
also the first Comcast market in the nation to launch Comcast Digital
Voice.
Mr. Guthrie is very involved in many industry and community
organizations. He is a Trustee of Connecticut Public Broadcasting, a
member of the Board of Directors of the Middlesex YMCA and a recent
past president and advisor to the New England Chapter of the Cable and
Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM). He is also very
involved in Women in Cable & Telecommunications, serving as an
advisor to the organization’s local Board of Directors and receiving
its prestigious Career Achievement Award in 2007. Mr. Guthrie was also
recognized as a 2008 Diversity Edge Diversity Champion for his
demonstrated commitment to and achievements in creating a diverse
workforce.
Mr. Guthrie earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from
Bridgewater State College and is attending graduate study at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute towards his Masters degree in Management. He
resides in Portland, Connecticut with his wife Sheila and daughters
Harper and Claire.
