WICT New England
Proudly Presents:
Now
more than ever, with kids being hoe for the summer...families have a
need that is no longer satisfied by local school systems.
|
In
keeping with our mission of giving back to the community and
volunteering, WICT New England is partnering with 3 local Food Banks
this June. After doing some research we found that our local food
shelters are in need of food. With the economy the way it is and the
vast amount of people with- out jobs these shelters are finding the
need for food is overwhelming. As we looked to do a community service
program we felt that this would make the biggest impact in more than
one community.
We
are collecting at our office... June 14-23. On June 24th we will be
delivering the food to distribution facilities including Merrimack
Valley Food Bank and the Greater Boston Food Bank in MA as well as
Enfield Food Bank in CT.
Here are some local facts on hunger:
- 320,000 people or 7% of the
population uses emergency food programs annually
- More than one in three households
served has a child under the age of 18
- Over 10% of those who receive
emergency food assistance are 65 or older
- 57% of the people served have to
choose between food and rent, medicine, or heat
- 84% have a place to live but cannot
get the food they need
